Doors will open at 7pm and concessions and music will be served from some local outfits.

BARN FIND HONDA: The Honda Dream 150 CA95 Gets a Bath

Given the 78 miles on the odometer and the history I've collected from this bike, this is likely the first wash it's had in 40+ years. Remarkably the tubes in the tires still held air, however the tires themselves were literally crumbling off. We threw her into the pick-up bed and brought her to the car wash to blast off all the leaves, dirt and straw that had accumulated. Her pending new owner, Lauren, came by for a test fit and everything went well. This CA95 may be next on the build report - a restoration with some tasteful updates. Stay tuned!

PROJECT SR250: Wiring, Assembly and Testfire

According to my calculations an update to the Yamaha SR250 is long over due. I've been working at full speed the past few weeks after a certain calendar event invite from Kara regarding completion of her sweet summer ride.

The biggest hang up for me, mentally, was wiring up a new harness from scratch. Wiring diagrams weren't covered in my art school education. The best I could do is paint you a picture describing what they mean to me. Many parts on the bike were either relocated or replaced by parts with different electrical needs. I picked up as many wire color combinations I could find and some fresh connectors (www.vintageconnections.com - highly recommended) then gave my auto tech / mech. engineering friend Joe a call. He's been kind enough to lend a hand whenever I find myself standing and starring at a project for 20-30 minutes visualizing how difficult it's going to be.

We started by mapping everything out that would be on the new harness and cross referencing the stock diagram for where lines would need to run. This took a while but helped tremendously down the line when we needed to diagnose some issues, like a flashing headlight.

The untainted mind of a design student has always been something I try to bring myself back to again and again. Knowing too much can limit your creativity, setting up road blocks and creating turbulence in the flow of idealistic design. To some this is called "function", which I'm told is a necessary part of a complete idea, but to begin a project by laying out all possible issues seems counter intuitive. The untainted student mind works in a different way - start with the ideal solution and work backwards until it's possible. Some may also recognize this as the Steve Jobs approach.

Let's introduce Suhann, a Shih Chien University Industrial Design student. Suhann saw a disconnect between his two loves, motorcycles and "streamlined" vintage design.

"I wonder[ed], why is [it] that all vintage motorcycles look the same? Since I couldn't find the ideal looking [bike], I'd like to build one myself."

His inspiration for the concept he would call Roadrunner came from floatplanes.

"The concept is based on the elevating trellis structure of old floatplanes. The body is composed by three volumes, which create spaces within, making the body much lighter visually."
